Portrait Paintings

This section of 48 portrait paintings includes commissioned works, self portraits and the human face captured in a variety of styles. This section also includes portraits of Aboriginal women who were part of the Sunburnt Country (2001) exhibition and a number of Yoga Guru’s.

In his early career in the 80’s and 90’s in London, Ffyffe promoted his art and supported himself by painting portraits in a shop front in Romford, East London. This work generated commissions and many satisfied customers. A few of these portraits remain…including several of priests…who knows why he retained these? 

Ffyffe also made himself the subject in many of his paintings…there’s no cheaper or more patient model than oneself, and there are several self-portraits completed across his career which reveal his experimentation with different textures and techniques, serving as a personal narrative of his artistic growth.
